At the 2026 Chaozhou District Language Competition, held on 6 June at Xinpi Elementary School, Nan Jung's students met the region's best — and shone. With steady stage presence and long, careful preparation, they took six golds and three silvers, nine awards in all, the most golds of any school in the junior-high division.
All nine winners will represent the Chaozhou district at the Pingtung County Language Competition in September. Their categories ranged across Taiwanese and Hakka reading and speech, Mandarin oratory and composition, calligraphy and character recognition.
For Ko Yi-chun, who took first place in Hakka reading, the prize was hard-won: she practiced her pronunciation, intonation and feeling over and over, and though she met many setbacks she never gave up. “Now I have more confidence,” she said, “and I've learned how much persistence matters.”
Hung Tsai-chen, first in Taiwanese situational speech, speaks Taiwanese with her family at home; when a word eluded her she would ask her grandparents or look it up in the Ministry of Education's Taiwanese dictionary. Tan Hsu-lin, who placed second in English speech, was a first-timer: “From preparing to standing on stage, it was all new. I practiced in my spare time with my teachers and a senior student, who kept helping me refine my pronunciation, gestures and delivery — I learned so much.”
Principal Wu Shu-hui said the results reflected long hours of the students' own practice and the teachers' devoted coaching. Language ability, she noted, cannot be built overnight — it grows through years of reading, thinking and expression — and the school will keep deepening its language education so that words become a key to the students' futures.

9名全員が、9月に開かれる屏東県語文コンクールへ潮州区代表として進みます。種目は台湾語・客家語の朗読やスピーチ、国語の演説や作文、書道、字音字形など多岐にわたりました。
客家語朗読で第一位に輝いた柯怡君さんにとって、その栄誉は努力の賜物でした。発音・抑揚・感情表現を何度も練習し、多くの困難に出会っても決してあきらめませんでした。「おかげで自信がつき、続けることの大切さを実感しました」と語ります。
台湾語の情境式スピーチで第一位の洪寀宸さんは、家庭でふだんから台湾語で家族と話し、わからない言葉は祖父母に尋ねたり教育部の台湾語オンライン辞典で調べたりしてきました。英語スピーチで第二位の譚旭霖さんは初挑戦。「準備から本番まですべてが新しい挑戦でした。放課後に先生や先輩と練習し、発音や身ぶり、声の表現を何度も直していただいて、本当に多くを学びました」と話します。
呉淑惠校長は、優れた成績の背景には生徒自身の長い練習と、教師陣の心のこもった指導があるとし、語学力は一朝一夕には育たず、読み・考え・表現を重ねて少しずつ培われるものだと述べました。学校は今後も語文教育を深め、言葉が生徒たちの未来を開く力となるよう励みます。
