Street Food, Games,
and a Festival of Color

In their second exchange with India, Class 5B feasted their eyes on Indian street food, learned brand-new games, and met the color and light of Holi — then danced their hearts out in return.

A Table Full of New Words

For their second online exchange with a school in India, our fifth graders were buzzing with excitement. The Indian students introduced a whole table of local street foods — aloo tikki, kachori, bhelpuri, samosa, and gol gappa — and every one of them sounded delicious.

We also learned their favorite traditional games, including kho kho, gilli danda, kabaddi, and top — all new and full of fun.

Color, Light, and a Dance

Then came their festivals: the colorful Holi with its clouds of bright powder, the delicate hand art of mehndi, the little diya oil lamps, and rangoli patterns drawn from rice flour and colored sand. Even their banknotes were full of local character.

The happiest moment was our own dance. As our classmates danced their hearts out, the Indian students laughed and smiled on the other side of the screen — and we felt proud and joyful all at once.

“As we danced, our new friends laughed and clapped along.”
