Over a century of names and history on Hsinchu's coast.
Neihu Elementary traces its roots to 1918, when it opened as the Yanshui Branch of Xiangshan National School. Over the following decades it was renamed several times as Taiwan's administration changed — Xiangshan Yanshui Public School in 1928, Hsinchu City Yanshui National School in 1941, Hsinchu City Eighth National School in 1946 — before finally becoming Neihu National School in 1947 and, in 1982, Hsinchu City Neihu Elementary School. Today it serves nearly 500 students across 19 classes, with a school district that extends into part of neighboring Zhunan Township in Miaoli County.

Its school district reaches beyond Hsinchu City into part of Zhunan Township in neighboring Miaoli County, making it a shared anchor for families on both sides of the boundary.
Xiangshan, Hsinchu's coastal Minnan heartland.
Xiangshan District is Hsinchu City's coastal district, long shaped by Minnan fishing and oyster-farming traditions and fringed by tidal wetlands. Its historic "mother school," Xiangshan Elementary, was founded in 1908 through the philanthropy of a local gentry family and later gave rise to several neighborhood schools, including this one's neighbors across the district. See the Hsinchu City county page for more on the region.
