A small school with a close-knit rural community.
Nan-ai Elementary began life in 1971 as a branch school before becoming fully independent in 1977. It was renamed Hsinchu City Nan-ai Elementary School following the city's 1982 upgrade to provincial-city status. Today it remains one of the smallest schools in Xiangshan District, with about six classes and roughly 122 students taught by 15 teachers and supported by 3 staff members — small enough that every student is known by name. Its attached kindergarten offers mixed-age classes with its own kitchen and after-school care.

With only about 122 students across six classes, Nan-ai offers the kind of individual attention and close teacher-student relationships that larger urban schools can't easily match.

🧒 Mixed-Age Kindergarten Care
附幼混齡教學
Its attached kindergarten runs mixed-age classes with an independent kitchen and after-school care, extending the school's small, family-like atmosphere to its youngest learners.
Xiangshan, Hsinchu's coastal Minnan heartland.
Xiangshan District is Hsinchu City's coastal district, long shaped by Minnan fishing and oyster-farming traditions along its shoreline and tidal wetlands further out toward the coast. Its historic "mother school," Xiangshan Elementary, was founded in 1908 through the philanthropy of a local gentry family and gave rise to several of the district's neighborhood schools. See the Hsinchu City county page for more on the region.
