Ziyou Elementary School

Ziyou Elementary School traces its origins to 1922, when it opened under Japanese colonial rule as "Maifuping Indigenous-Children's Education Post" — a facility established to educate Atayal children. Over a century old, it is the oldest school lineage in Heping District, reflecting the earliest formal education effort aimed at Atayal children in the Dajia River highlands. In 1998, the school was redesignated a "primary Indigenous-focus school," formally recognizing its long-standing role serving the local Indigenous community.

自由國小創校可追溯至1922年（日治時期），初名「埋伏坪蕃童教育所」，是一所專為泰雅族兒童設立的教育機構。學校已逾百年歷史，是和平區歷史最悠久的學校，見證了大甲溪高地泰雅族兒童最早期的正規教育努力。1998年，學校重新指定為「原住民重點學校」，正式肯認其長期服務在地原住民社群的角色。
