A school that reclaimed its original name.
The school began in 1956 as a branch of Tucheng Elementary and became independent after 1968 under the name "Jianmin Elementary" (健民國小). It was severely damaged in the 1999 921 earthquake and rebuilt in part with aid from Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. After community petitions, the school was renamed "Zhuzaikeng Elementary" (竹仔坑國小) in August 2023, restoring its link to its actual geographic setting — a bamboo-grove hillside area of Dali.

🌱 Roots in the Tucheng Branch System
Founded in 1956 as a Tucheng Elementary branch, the school's long history predates its current name by decades.
A place-name returned to its school.
The 2023 rename to "Zhuzaikeng" restored the school's link to its actual geographic setting — a bamboo-grove hillside area of Dali. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
