Zhutang Junior High was approved for establishment in 1961, beginning as a branch of Xizhou Junior High School enrolling three classes of students under Taiwan's "one junior high per township" policy. It was formally established as "Changhua County Zhutang Junior Middle School" in December 1961, and restructured and renamed "Changhua County Zhutang Junior High School" in 1968. The school marked its 60th anniversary with a celebration on December 11, 2021, and has been recognized as a Changhua County "Character Education and Reading Education Featured School."
竹塘國中於民國50年（1961年）獲准設立，最初以「一鄉鎮一國中」政策下溪州國中分部的形式招收三班國中學生。同年12月正式設校，定名為「彰化縣立竹塘初級中學」，並於民國57年（1968年）改制更名為「彰化縣立竹塘國民中學」。學校於2021年12月11日舉辦建校六十週年慶祝活動，並曾獲彰化縣「品格教育暨閱讀教育特色學校」的肯定。
