A school split off from Hsinchu's original public school.
Zhulian Elementary's predecessor, Nanmen National School, was established on July 1, 1954, and renamed Zhulian National School just a month later, on August 1. It became a fully independent school in 1956, having split off from Hsinchu Public School (新竹公學校) — the city's original public school. The campus sits next to Hsinchu's back train station, facing one of Taiwan's oldest railway stations. In 2024, the school opened a new NT$110 million multi-function activity center.
