Built by community, honored for its language.
Zhongke Elementary began in 1959 as a branch campus, founded after local Hakka gentry pooled their own funds to purchase the school site — a hallmark of the community self-reliance common across Dongshi's hill villages. It became an independent school in 1961 and took its current name in 1968. The school has since been recognized as an "Outstanding Hakka Language School," and it runs an erhu and traditional-instrument club that keeps regional musical traditions alive for its students.
