From a private classics academy to a public school.
Zhonghu Elementary traces its origins to 1929, when it began as a private Chinese-classics academy known as a “hanwen shufang” (漢文書房) — an informal community school teaching classical Chinese texts, common in rural Taiwan before the public education system matured. It was reorganized and renamed Zhonghu Elementary School in 1948, and remains one of the smaller, older schools serving Yingge District today.
