A name that honors a fallen pilot.

Zaixi Elementary traces its roots to the "Air Force Children's Elementary School," founded in Shanghai in 1946, which relocated to Taiwan in 1949 as the Nationalist government retreated. In August 1950, two divisions merged to form the "Air Force General Headquarters Xinzhu Elementary School" on the former campsite of the Air Force's 20th Brigade. On August 1, 1966, the school was renamed "載熙國小" to honor Wu Zaixi, an Air Force officer who died in a U-2 reconnaissance aircraft crash — the school's name plaque was personally written by then-Defense Minister Chiang Ching-kuo. The school became a municipal institution in 1982.
