Yuandou Elementary traces its roots to 1921, when it opened as a Japanese-era branch school known as "丈八斗分教場," part of Erlin Public School. After Taiwan's 1945 retrocession it was renamed Yuandou National School, and took its present name, Yuandou Elementary School, in 1968. A junior high division (Yuandou Junior High) was split off as a separate school in 1983. In 2018, the elementary and junior high were reunited under a "top school" pilot program, making it Changhua County's first combined elementary-junior high school, formally known as Yuandou Combined Elementary and Junior High School (原斗國民中小學). This site continues to catalogue it under its elementary-school grades.
原斗國小的歷史可追溯至民國10年（1921年），前身為日治時期二林公學校的「丈八斗分教場」。1945年台灣光復後改稱「原斗國民學校」，民國57年（1968年）定名為「原斗國小」。民國72年（1983年），原斗國中自本校分出獨立設校。到了民國107年（2018年），透過「特色領航學校」計畫，國中部與國小部再度合併，成為彰化縣第一所國中小合併學校「原斗國民中小學」。本網站仍以其國小學制介紹此校。
