Built on reclaimed land, for a growing district.
Yongping Elementary was established in 1982, with its own campus built atop a reclaimed former garbage dump hill in Yonghe. Before the campus was completed in 1984, students initially borrowed classrooms at four other schools around the district. At its peak, the school grew to more than 100 classes, reflecting Yonghe's rapid, land-scarce urban expansion in the 1980s.
What makes this school worth knowing.
♻️ Built on Reclaimed Land
填平垃圾山而建
The school's campus was built atop a reclaimed former garbage dump hill, a striking example of land-scarce Yonghe repurposing marginal ground for public use.
🏫 Once Over 100 Classes Strong
曾逾百班規模
At its peak, Yongping Elementary grew to more than 100 classes, one of the larger schools produced by Yonghe's dense 1980s population growth.
🚌 Borrowed Classrooms Before Its Own Campus
校舍完工前借教室上課
Before its own campus was completed in 1984, students attending the newly founded school borrowed classrooms at four other schools around the district.
Repurposing scarce land for a growing city.
The school's construction on a former landfill mirrors Yonghe's rapid, land-scarce urban densification, where even marginal land had to be repurposed for schools. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
