Yongning Elementary began in 1922 as a branch campus during the Japanese colonial era, and became an independent school in 1929 as Yongning Public School. It has long served as the educational and cultural center for three villages in southern Wuqi, and its original Japanese-era teacher's dormitory building survives today as a registered municipal historic building.
永寧國小於西元1922年(日治時期)以分校形式創立,民國18年(1929年)獨立設校,改制為「永寧公學校」。多年來,學校一直是梧棲南側三個村里的教育與文化中心,其創校初期興建的日治時期教師宿舍,至今仍作為市定歷史建築保存下來。
