Yixue Junior High was established in name in 1991, initially borrowing the campus of Yixue Elementary School, before moving into its own new campus in 2004. Named "Yixue" (義學, meaning "charity school") after Hu Zhuoyou, the Qing-dynasty benefactor who donated land and tuition funds that founded the nearby Mingzhi Academy, the school today enrolls more than 1,450 students and maintains a stone monument on campus commemorating his historic donation.
義學國中於民國80年(1991年)立案設校,初期借用義學國小校舍,2004年遷入自建的新校舍。學校名為「義學」,是為紀念清代捐地捐款、創辦鄰近明志書院的仕紳胡焯猷。目前全校學生逾1,450人,校內並立有石碑紀念胡焯猷的捐資興學義舉。
