The school that gave the district its name.
Xitun Elementary School was established in 1903 during the Japanese colonial era and opened in 1904 as the independently named Dadun Public School. As the oldest school among this group, it gives the district its own name and is the direct institutional descendant of the old Xidaduan settlement that gave Xitun District its historic identity long before Tunghai University and Feng Chia University arrived. The school has been renamed several times, through the 1947 municipal reorganization and the 1968 nine-year-education reform.
