Zhongzheng Elementary School was established in 1968, with its school buildings completed and occupied from February 1970. Its name follows a naming convention common to schools founded during Taiwan's postwar 1960s expansion of compulsory education. A same-named but unrelated school also exists in Taichung's Wuqi District.
