Dongxing Elementary in Xinshe District opened in 1926 and recently marked its 100th anniversary. (This school is distinct from a same-named elementary school in Taichung's Nantun District.) Its decades-old "East Building" classrooms were badly damaged in the 921 earthquake of 1999 and were subsequently rebuilt with sponsorship from Formosa TV. The school sits on the south bank of the Dajia River, on a terrace between the Taichung basin and Dongshi District.
新社區的東興國小創立於1926年，近年舉辦建校百週年慶典。（此校與台中南屯區同名的東興國小為不同學校。）校內歷史悠久的「東棟」教室在1999年九二一大地震中嚴重受損，其後由電視台贊助重建。學校座落於大甲溪南岸的河階地形，位於台中盆地與東勢之間。
