Wenchang Elementary was founded in 1899 (Meiji 32), during the early years of Japanese colonial rule, and is officially recognized as one of Taiwan's "century-old elementary schools" — a designation reserved for campuses with more than a hundred years of continuous history. The school took its current name in 1968. Its old dormitory cluster has been registered as a historic building, and the school maintains active baseball, badminton, and table-tennis teams.
文昌國小創校於明治32年（1899年），為日治時期初期設立的學校，是台灣官方認定的「百年老校」之一——這項殊榮僅授予校史超過百年的學校。學校於民國57年（1968年）更為現名。校內舊宿舍群已登錄為歷史建築，同時也組有活躍的棒球隊、羽球隊與桌球隊。
