Following the upheavals of the mid-20th century, the school was re-established in Xiluo in 1957, carrying its name and mission across the strait to a new generation of students. 東南國中的校史可追溯至民國19年（1930年）於中國鎮江創立的「東南中學」。歷經時代變遷，學校於民國46年（1957年）在西螺復校，將校名與辦學精神帶到台灣、傳承給新一代學子。如今學校以政府核准之「代用」私立國中身分運作，在西螺鎮的教育版圖中，與公立學校並肩扮演重要角色。
