Xihu Junior High began as a trial program in 1956, with its earliest classes held temporarily at Xihu Elementary School. The school was formally established in 1957 and relocated to its own campus that same year, before being renamed Changhua County Xihu Junior High School in 1958. Over nearly seven decades, the school has had ten principals, with the current principal, Yang Shuduan, serving since 2014.
溪湖國中創立於民國45年（1956年）試辦階段，最初的班級暫時借用溪湖國小的教室上課。學校於民國46年（1957年）正式成立，同年遷入自建校舍，並於民國47年（1958年）更名為彰化縣立溪湖國民中學。近七十年來，學校歷經十任校長，現任校長楊淑端自2014年起接任至今。
