Xiangshang Junior High School broke ground in April 1968 as "臺中市第十國民中學" (Taichung Municipal Tenth Junior High School) and welcomed its first students that September. It was renamed "向上" (Xiangshang) in 1971. The campus sits on Meicun Road, near the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, in one of West District's established arts-and-culture neighborhoods.
向上國中於民國57年(1968年)4月動工興建,初名「臺中市第十國民中學」,同年9月即招收首屆學生。民國60年(1971年)更名為「向上」。校址位於美村路上,鄰近國立臺灣美術館,座落於西區成熟的藝文廊帶內。
