A coastal school with a battlefield past.
Tiansheng Elementary School opened in 1960 as a branch of Wenhua Elementary School, known then as the "Youchekou Branch," to serve children in Tamsui's coastal Youche and Shalun communities. The school takes its name from Wang Tiansheng, the father of local donors who supported its founding, and a bronze bust of him stands at the school gate today. Its campus occupies ground associated with the 1884 Battle of Tamsui during the Sino-French War, tying the school directly to the district's coastal defense history.

Founded as a branch school for the Youche and Shalun coastal communities, Tiansheng remains tied to Tamsui's oldest fishing and farming villages by the sea.
Ground shaped by an 1884 battle.
The school grounds sit near the site of the 1884 Battle of Tamsui, part of the Sino-French War, when Qing defenses repelled a French naval assault on the port — a formative episode in Tamsui's identity as a fortified treaty port. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
