Taishan Elementary was founded in 1898 as a language-teaching branch under Japanese colonial administration, known as the "Tamsui Mandarin Training Institute's Shanjiao Branch" (淡水國語傳習所山腳分教場), making it one of the district's oldest schools. In 1912, a descendant of pioneer settler Lin Zuozhe donated land in Shanjiao village for the school's permanent site. It was renamed "Taishan Elementary" in 1968, but its old name "Shanjiao" (山腳, meaning "foot of the mountain") preserves the historic name for the area before it became Taishan District.
泰山國小創立於1898年，為日治時期的「淡水國語傳習所山腳分教場」，是泰山區內歷史最悠久的學校之一。1912年，開拓先民林祖乾的後裔於山腳庄捐地，作為學校永久校址。1968年更名為「泰山國小」，但舊名「山腳」（意指山之腳下）保留了泰山設區前的舊地名記憶。
