Named for the spring that feeds the basin.
Shuiyuan Elementary School was founded in 1918 during the Japanese colonial era as a branch of Tamsui Public School. Its name — "Shuiyuan," meaning "water source" — reflects its location near a mountain spring feeding the wider Tamsui watershed. The campus sits on the third ridge of Tamsui's "Five Tigers Ridge" beneath Datun Mountain, and today the school operates an open, citywide enrollment policy.
