The district's founding school, named for twin creeks.

Shuangxi Elementary was founded in 1898, just three years into the Japanese colonial era, making it one of Taiwan's original "century schools." The school's name (literally "twin creeks") comes from the confluence of the Muzha and Pinglin streams that define Shuangxi's old town geography, and as the district's founding school, it has anchored local education since the earliest years of modern schooling in the area. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1998 with then-President Lee Teng-hui attending in person, and marked its 120th anniversary in 2018.

As the district's founding school, Shuangxi Elementary takes its name directly from the confluence of the Muzha and Pinglin streams that define Shuangxi's old town geography — the same waterways that gave the whole district its name. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
