A campus built where the buses once turned around.
Shijian Elementary was approved for founding in 1989, with its first students enrolling in 1990. Its campus was built on the site of a former public bus terminal — a piece of Banqiao's transit history repurposed for education as the district grew. The school today hosts an annual English song competition, is active in maker education, and has provided free nutritious lunches citywide since 2023.
What makes this school worth knowing.
🚌 A Campus Built on a Former Bus Terminal
前身為公車總站
Shijian's campus occupies the site of a former public bus terminal, a physical trace of how Banqiao's transit infrastructure gave way to schools and housing as the district grew.
🎤 An Annual English Song Competition
英語歌唱比賽
A yearly English song competition gives students a performance-based reason to practice their language skills outside the regular classroom.
🔧 Maker Education in Action
自造教育
An active maker-education program has students building and tinkering as part of their science and technology learning.
Where transit gave way to classrooms.
The campus's former life as a public bus terminal is a small monument to Banqiao's growth: as the district densified, transit infrastructure gave way to the schools and housing residents needed. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
