Shenkeng Elementary opened in 1899 as "Shenkeng Public School," during the Japanese colonial era, making it the first public elementary school in what is now Shenkeng District — its permanent classroom facilities were completed in 1903. History is written into its campus: a wooden school auditorium built in 1918, during the Taishō era, was registered as a New Taipei municipal historic building in 2007 and carefully restored in 2009. In recent years, the school converted an old basketball court into an artificial wetland, turning a piece of hardscape into a living outdoor classroom for environmental education.
深坑國小創立於1899年（明治32年），日治時期名為「深坑公學校」，是今日深坑區境內第一所公立小學，其永久性教室校舍於1903年完工。校園中留有歷史印記：一座建於1918年（大正7年）的木造禮堂，於2007年登錄為新北市市定古蹟，並於2009年完成修復。近年來，學校將舊籃球場改造為人工濕地，讓一塊硬鋪面搖身一變成為環境教育的戶外教室。
