A century on the sand ridge.
Shalun Elementary opened on 1 April 1920 during the Japanese colonial era as a branch campus of Banqiao Public School, and celebrated its centennial in 2020. Its name, meaning "sand ridge" or "dune," describes the sandy alluvial terrain along the Dahan River floodplain where the school sits, south of old Banqiao town. The school is designated a Green Partner School, running plant and butterfly identification programs, and publishes an alumni magazine called 沙崙兒童 ("Shalun Children").
