120 years serving a tea-and-river town.

Pinglin Elementary opened in 1906, during the Japanese colonial era, and in May 2026 marked its 120th anniversary — a milestone the school tied explicitly to Pinglin's identity as a century-old tea-and-river town. Over the decades its catchment grew to span the entire mountainous township, after absorbing two remote satellite campuses: Kuoshi Elementary in 1985 and Yuguang Elementary in 2006. Today the school also runs the "Kuoshi English Magic Academy," an English-immersion program that carries the name of one of its absorbed branch schools forward.

Local Culture ·

Inseparable from Pinglin's tea-and-river story.

🍵

Pinglin is the historic heart of Taiwan's Pouchong tea (包種茶) trade, its river-valley hillsides given over to tea gardens for generations, with the Beishi River (北勢溪) threading through the township on its way to the Feitsui Reservoir. Pinglin Elementary's 120th-anniversary branding leaned directly into this identity, presenting the school as inseparable from the township's tea-and-river story. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
