A small school in the hills above Sanzhi.
Hengshan Elementary began in 1954 as a branch of Sanzhi Elementary School, becoming an independent school in 1965. It is officially designated as a remote/rural school, serving a small inland community named for the "Hengshan" (横山, "crosswise hill") terrain typical of this part of Sanzhi. A kindergarten class was added in 1997, expanding the campus's role for the surrounding hamlets.
橫山國小於民國43年(1954年)以三芝國小分校身分創立,1965年(民國54年)正式獨立設校,是官方認定的偏遠/山區學校,服務地名取自「橫山」丘陵地形的小型內山聚落。學校於1997年(民國86年)增設幼兒園班級,擴大了對周邊聚落的服務範圍。
