A small school in the hills above Sanzhi.
Hengshan Elementary began in 1954 as a branch of Sanzhi Elementary School, becoming an independent school in 1965. It is officially designated as a remote/rural school, serving a small inland community named for the "Hengshan" (横山, "crosswise hill") terrain typical of this part of Sanzhi. A kindergarten class was added in 1997, expanding the campus's role for the surrounding hamlets.
橫山國小於民國43年（1954年）以三芝國小分校身分創立，1965年（民國54年）正式獨立設校，是官方認定的偏遠/山區學校，服務地名取自「橫山」丘陵地形的小型內山聚落。學校於1997年（民國86年）增設幼兒園班級，擴大了對周邊聚落的服務範圍。
