A school born from a safety concern.
Datong Elementary's origins trace to a safety concern rather than a planned expansion: before its formal founding in 1961, local children had to cross a railway level-crossing to reach Shulin Elementary School, prompting the community to set up a branch class first. That branch class grew into today's independent Datong Elementary School.

The school exists because children once had to cross a dangerous railway level-crossing to attend Shulin Elementary, prompting a branch class that grew into an independent school.

樹林鐵路與校史的關聯
Datong's founding story echoes a pattern seen across the district, where the railway line repeatedly shaped where and why new schools were built.
🏫 Six Decades of Local Service
服務地方逾一甲子
Founded in 1961, the school has served generations of families in Shulin's Datong neighborhood for more than sixty years.
A history shaped by the railway.
The story of Datong Elementary — founded to spare children a dangerous railway crossing — reflects how deeply the Shulin rail line has shaped daily life and school planning across the district, a theme that recurs in the histories of several neighboring schools. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
