The district's oldest school.
Wuqi Elementary opened in 1897 during the Japanese colonial era, and was formally reorganized the following year, in 1898, as Wuqi Public School. It moved to its present site in 1936. As the oldest school in the district, its history predates the modern Taichung Harbor entirely, embodying old Wuqi — the fishing and trading settlement and old-street community that existed long before the 1970s industrial transformation of the port.
