Wengzi Elementary School was founded in 1921 as a branch class under Japanese rule, becoming independent in 1928. Its original 1928 school buildings and a Japanese-style teacher's dormitory have survived largely intact, and were designated a municipal historic building in 2015 — giving the campus a living connection to Fengyuan's colonial-era rural school system.
