A school built out of a community's grassroots effort.
Before Wanhe Elementary existed, children in this part of Erlin Township had to walk six kilometers to Yuandou National School — a hardship that spurred local leaders to campaign for a school of their own. The campus was originally a sand dune overgrown with reeds and wild grass before being developed, and over roughly fifty years it was built up through the joint efforts of principals, teachers, alumni, and local parents. Its exact founding date is not documented on the school's public materials, but its history of community-driven growth is well recorded. Today it is a small, Ministry of Education-designated remote school near the Erlin (Phase 4) site of the Central Taiwan Science Park, with an emphasis on character education and well-rounded development.
