From an ancestral home to a century of schooling.
Wanggong Elementary opened its doors on April 1, 1920, as a satellite teaching site of Shashan Public School, housed in a traditional ancestral residence with just two classes and 13 students. A century later, the school marked its 100th anniversary across the 2019–2020 school year, celebrating a milestone shared with few rural schools in Taiwan. Today it serves the children of Wanggong Village, a fishing community on Changhua's coast in Fangyuan Township.

Wang Gong, a fishing village on the wetlands.
Wanggong Village calls itself "the hometown of pearl oysters," drawing on its identity as a fishing village along Fangyuan Township's coastal wetlands. The school weaves this scenery and ecology directly into student life, from unicycling on the schoolyard to IoT projects inspired by the shoreline. See the Changhua county page for more on the region.
