Built from disaster, grown into the coast's largest school.
Zhulin Elementary was founded in 1960, built in part with donations from overseas Chinese communities in the wake of the devastating "8/7 flood" of 1959, one of Taiwan's worst natural disasters of the 20th century. The school grew steadily in the decades that followed, and by 2010 it had the largest student enrollment of any school on Taichung's coastal strip.
