Zhongping Junior High School was established in 1981 on land that had previously served as the former Taichung County government's tree nursery, which is why the campus still retains a number of mature cypress and pine trees from that era. Sitting amid Zhongping Village, the school took its name by combining “中” from Taichung and “平” from Taiping, expressing its founding ideal of balance between the two. Its recorder ensemble has won the national competition four times, a point of lasting pride for the school.
中平國中創立於民國70年（1981年），校地原為台中縣政府苗圃用地，因此校園至今仍保留多株老檜木與松樹。學校座落於中坪里一帶，校名取「台中」的「中」與「太平」的「平」二字組合而成，象徵創校之初中庸平和的理念。直笛隊曾四度榮獲全國賽冠軍，是全校引以為傲的成就。
