Zhonghe Elementary became an independent school in 1956, splitting off from what had been a branch campus of Dalin Elementary. Its founding reflects Xinshe District's postwar pattern of subdividing rural school districts as farming hamlets grew. The school suffered severe damage in the 921 earthquake of 1999 and was subsequently rebuilt.
中和國小於民國45年（1956年）獨立設校，前身是大林國小的「中和」分班。其設立反映了新社地區戰後因農村聚落成長而分割學區的模式。學校在1999年九二一大地震中遭受嚴重損壞，其後進行重建。
