Xinguang Elementary School began as a branch in 1959 and became independent in 1967. In 2016 it moved to a new, colorfully themed campus designed around fairy-tale and storybook motifs, distinguishing it from the newer Xinguang Junior High School nearby. Its whimsical, community-integrated campus design reflects Taiping District's broader push to brand its schools as neighborhood landmarks.
新光國小於民國48年（1959年）以分校型式設立，民國56年（1967年）正式獨立。民國105年（2016年），學校遷入以童話故事為主題、色彩繽紛的新校園，與鄰近較新設立的新光國中有所區別。這座充滿童趣、融入社區的校園設計，也呼應了太平區將校園打造為社區地標的整體規劃方向。
