Rebuilt after the ground shook.
Wufu Elementary opened in 1957 as a branch school before becoming independent in 1960, serving the villages of Wufeng District ever since. Like many schools near the epicenter of the 1999 921 earthquake, its campus was severely damaged in the disaster. The Tzu Chi Foundation funded its full reconstruction, and the rebuilt school reopened in 2001, giving Wufu a fresh campus that carries the memory of that recovery.

The school's very buildings are a legacy of Taiwan's most devastating modern earthquake and the wave of civic reconstruction that followed it.
Wufeng and the 921 earthquake.
Wufu Elementary's post-921 reconstruction is a direct legacy of the 1999 earthquake, now memorialized at the nearby 921 Earthquake Museum in Wufeng — one of several district schools rebuilt in the disaster's aftermath. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
