A century in the heart of old downtown.
Guangfu Elementary opened in 1919 as “Taichung No. 2 Ordinary Higher Elementary School” (台中第二尋常高等小學校), taking its current name, Guangfu (光復, meaning “Retrocession”), after Taiwan's return to Republic of China rule in 1945. Now over a century old, the school sits on Sanmin Road in the heart of Taichung's original Japanese-era planned downtown, near the old Taichung Prefectural Government Hall complex and the train station. Its early Little League baseball program produced several professional players, and its school district today covers seven historic Central District neighborhoods.
