A town's resilience, rebuilt after 921.
Dongshi Junior High School was established in 1946, in the same postwar wave of school-founding that shaped much of Dongshi District. It has run an arts-talent dance program since 1981, a rare long-running specialty for a small-town junior high. The 1999 921 earthquake destroyed the campus, and reconstruction was carried out with support from the Tzu Chi Foundation, a Buddhist charity — an episode still remembered locally as a marker of the town's post-quake resilience.
