Built to relieve two crowded neighbors.
Dayong Elementary School was established in 1992 specifically to relieve overcrowding at two much older, established West District elementary schools nearby — Zhongxiao Elementary and Heping Elementary. The campus sits adjacent to Chonglun Park and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, in a residential part of the district that had grown steadily through the late 20th century.

West District's late-century residential growth.
Dayong's founding purpose — easing pressure on two much older West District elementary schools — reflects the district's steady residential growth through the late 20th century, a pattern that shaped several nearby neighborhood schools. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
