Dali's very first public school.
Dali Elementary traces its founding to 1914, when it opened as a branch of the Taichung Public School during the Japanese colonial era, becoming independent as "Dali-yi Public School" (大里杙公學校) in 1918. It holds the distinction of being the first public school established within Dali itself. Its original name preserves "Dali-yi" (大里杙), the Qing-dynasty place-name for Dali as a river port town on the Dali River.
