A schoolhouse in the hills.
Dakeng Elementary began in 1948 as a branch of nearby Jungong Elementary School, gaining independence in 1953. Tucked inside the Dakeng Scenic Area — a cluster of forested hiking trails on Taichung's eastern edge — the school has long been a small, close-knit community fixture, often nicknamed the city's "little Yangmingshan" for its cool, green mountain setting.

Dakeng started in 1948 as a branch campus of Jungong Elementary before becoming fully independent in 1953, a common path for small mountain schools of its era.
Living inside Taichung's favorite hiking hills.
Dakeng's identity is inseparable from the 大坑風景區 (Dakeng Scenic Area), a network of numbered hiking trails and hillside farms that make it one of Taichung's best-known nature-recreation destinations. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
