A school that began in a tobacco shed.
Caohu Elementary began in 1952 as a branch of Tucheng Elementary School and became independent in 1955. In its earliest days, with the school building not yet finished, classes were held in a borrowed tobacco-curing shed — a direct trace of Dali's mid-20th-century tobacco-farming economy before the area urbanized.
