Tanzi Junior High opened in 1968, situated about 600 meters from Tanzi Train Station on the rail line linking Taichung and Fengyuan. In 1973, the school added a supplementary junior-high program held in the evenings, giving working residents who had missed formal schooling a chance to complete their junior-high education. It has served the district for more than half a century.
潭子國中創立於民國57年（1968年），校址距潭子車站約600公尺，位於連結台中與豐原的鐵路沿線。民國62年（1973年），學校增設夜間部補習學校，讓錯過正規學制的在地居民有機會完成國中學業。至今已服務潭子地區超過半世紀。
