Tanxiu Junior High opened in 1992 to relieve overcrowding at Tanzi Junior High as the district industrialized and grew, and specifically so that children no longer had to cross a rail line and highway that cut through Tanzi just to reach school. Only a year after opening, the school hosted the 1993 Taiwan Region Middle School Athletic Meet.
潭秀國中創立於民國81年（1992年），設校目的是紓解隨著潭子地區工業化而日益擁擠的潭子國中，同時讓孩童不必再穿越貫穿潭子的鐵路與公路才能到校。開校僅一年，學校便主辦了民國82年（1993年）台灣區中學運動會。
