From a hill-country branch to a citywide experiment.
Zhongshan Experimental Elementary School (忠山實驗小學) opened in 1957 as a branch of Xingren Elementary School and became independent in 1964. In 2019, it was converted into New Taipei City's first publicly run experimental elementary school under the Experimental Education Act, adopting an outdoor-education and civic-literacy curriculum and opening enrollment to students citywide, regardless of district. Note that its Chinese name uses the character 忠 ("loyal"), not 中 — the two happen to share the same romanization, "Zhongshan," as an unrelated Zhongshan Elementary School elsewhere in New Taipei.
忠山實驗小學於民國46年（1957年）以興仁國小分校形式創立，民國53年（1964年）獨立設校。民國108年（2019年）依《實驗教育三法》轉型為新北市首所公辦公營實驗小學，推動戶外教育與公民素養課程，並開放全市學童跨學區報名就讀。
